Let’s just all pretend like this trip didn’t happen on October 29th, and I’m not almost 2 months late on posting it! Great! Now that that’s out of the way, let me tell you about yet another roadtrip that didn’t go exactly as planned..
As a romantic, I initially planned this day to be full of surprises … for Slava… One can only hope, right?
The stress of getting the perfect birthday gift was way too real so I decided that I’d just go with what guys like, cars! Obviously, I can’t buy him a car (#brokecollegestudent), so I settled for the next best thing, a rental! Without his knowing, I reserved a Mustang for us to be picked up the morning of. This is where things started tio go terribly wrong.
On the morning of, I woke up dark and early (I’m talkin’ 5 a.m.!) Somewhere between wrapping the gifts and collecting supplies for the day, I managed to misplace my credit card! I still went to pick up Anna so she could drive my car back home and headed for the rental only to make a shameful drive back home because they refused to authorize my rental without a credit card present. (FYI – having my card number memorized didn’t help whatsoever!)
Despite having a cranky Anna in my passengers seat because I woke her up at 6:30 a.m. for what turned out to be no reason, I took her back to her cozy bed and headed to Slava’s. We still planned to have a nice breakfast at his house. Or so we thought…
One thing led to another, he burnt the breakfast, and his fire alarm went off followed by his parents going off, followed by starving Slava and Oxie who now have to leave on an empty stomach.
If I’ve learned anything from unfortunate events, it’s that eventually you get to a point where things really seem like they can’t get any worse, and so you finally start to make the most out of the awful luck you’re given. Basically, things finally started to turn up!
We made it to Bixby Bridge! All the times I’ve gone here and I don’t think I’ve ever taken any amazing photos of it. Well folks, thanks to Slava for being the amazing photographer that he is, the day has finally come!
Of course the trip is never complete without random stops along the side of the road to capture some images of a few super photogenic cows! That’s right, cows!
And after eating a big fat burrito that’s exactly what I felt like! A Majestic Cow 🙂
So hopefully by now you’ve realized that we were headed to Pfeiffer Beach, and of course, as we grow nearer to the beach, there were road signs everywhere stating that the park was closed for the season!
Fortunately, we both suffer from indenial so we went anyways – and turns out it was open for anyone who happened to have $10 cash on them… As luck would have it, neither one of us had cash on hand. So we ended up doing the drive of shame back to the nearest atm.
The drive actually led us to a nice friendly interaction with a couple of beauties. 🙂 Meet Comet and Blixen! (Named them myself, figured it was appropriate with the Holidays ;D)
Another round up and down the roads later, we cashed out, drove back to Pfeiffer, missed the sunset and all the tourists, had the gift exchange, no picnic, but we got to see the beautiful Julia Pfeiffer Beach!!!!
And to make the trip even more romantic, I ended up falling asleep on most of the 4 and a half hour drive home. *blush*
Honestly, it seems nature is better at planning things anyways 🙂
Till next time folks!
